Jin Jun Mei: A Tea Born from Tea Lovers

In 2005, a group of tea lovers visited Tongmu Village, Wuyi Mountain. One of them was Mr. Zhang, who said “we should make the best Lapsang Souchong black tea with tea buds”. That year, a group led by tea master Liang Junde made Jin Jun Mei for the first time.

As for processing, Jin Jun Mei uses a very similar process as the regular Lapsang Souchong. The difference is that the tea is made from the very fresh buds of Tongmu Village.

The dried leaves have a strong, sweet aroma. The smell of dried longan is very strong, and is almost identical to the scent of freshly cracked dried longan shells. You can also smell the smell of orchid, sweet potato (or yam) and honey, as well as some sweetness.

The taste of the first brew is longan, sweetness and mellow, with the longan flavor being the most noticeable. It is very smooth to swallow, without any astringency or bitterness.

The smell penetrates deeply into your nose. It is almost like a wave, with a long lasting aftertaste. As the flavor gets lighter and lighter with each additional brew. After 5 or 6 brews, the longan smell is still the most obvious one.

Green tea and Oolong tea are best enjoyed within a 2-year period.

White tea is an exception. Its internal compounds evolve over time, enhancing its fragrance and creating a deeper, mellower taste. Therefore, it does not have a specific optimal drinking period.

  • Tasting note: Wild flowers, Chocolate, Dried longan, a touch of fruitiness, Floral sweetness, Honied malt notes, Lingering Sweetness

As a top-tier black tea, Jin Jun Mei is most famous for its incredibly rich taste. The tea soup color is golden, as inviting as honey water. Take a sip, and first, you’ll notice wild floral notes spreading instantly in your mouth. That deep, full feel is like sipping a fine aged wine. Then, a gentle sweetness rises in your throat. When the flavor stays on your palate you may catch a roasted sweet potato note. The complex flavor combines the sweet smoothness of black tea with the floral charm of oolong and green tea's fresh taste. All these tastes blend wonderfully, creating a truly delightful surprise.
