Green tea and Oolong tea are best enjoyed within a 2-year period.

White tea is an exception. Its internal compounds evolve over time, enhancing its fragrance and creating a deeper, mellower taste. Therefore, it does not have a specific optimal drinking period.

What are the “roots” of Rooteas?

Rooteas tea making skills

Family-made

Our teas all come from tea-making families. Some are made by our own family, and others are crafted by families we've known and trusted for years. Not from an unknown source, but from real people and family producers whose craft we trust and have seen in person.

Single-origin

It means you can actually taste where the tea comes from. It stays true to its own place, so the local soil, rocks, and climate all come through in the cup. With Wuyi rock oolong, you get that clear rock rhythm (Yan Yun) and a deep, lingering fragrance that only those rocky slopes can give. When you drink it, you're not just having a cup of tea, you're getting a small snapshot of that landscape.

We like to keep things honest and simple. When we share a tea, we share all the detailed information too, so you always know what you're drinking. We'd love to be the trusted tea partner you can turn to.

  • Name: High Mountain Oolong - 高山乌龙
  • Type: Taiwan Oolong Tea
  • Origin: Hehuanshan, Taiwan
  • Harvest Time: Spring, 2025
  • Producer: Zhao Family
  • Tasting note: Soft and mellow, Honey-like sweetness, Toasted rice, Chestnut, Orchid, Fruity notes

The high mountain oolong tea is usually highly prized, mainly because it grows on very high mountains, up to 2,500 meters tall. High-altitude growing conditions and superior natural surroundings produce exceptional quality tea but make harvesting difficult which results in its rarity and uniqueness. The tea releases a fresh and pleasant fruity fragrance when you brew it. The semi-fermentation processing method delivers a refreshingly clean taste to the tea. The combination of its light texture and smooth refinement together with special floral and fruity notes produces a flavor that remains satisfyingly present in the mouth for an extended time.

Why Does “High Mountain” Produce Good Tea?

1. Lower Temperature = Higher Aroma

High mountain areas are cooler. Each ascent of 100 meters brings about a temperature decrease of about 0.6 degrees Celsius in higher altitudes. In cooler temperatures, tea leaves grow slower. Cool temperatures reduce the growth speed of tea leaves which results in higher retention of nitrogen compounds that enhance flavor.

Tea leaves cultivated at elevated altitudes develop a higher quantity of aromatic compounds. Real high mountain tea emits a stronger aroma that persists longer than tea from flat lowland areas.

2. Bigger Day-Night Temperature Difference = Better Taste

Tea plants at higher elevations experience greater temperature differences between day and night. The tea plant uses sunlight during daylight hours to synthesize nutrients through photosynthesis.

As the temperature drops during nighttime hours the stomata located on leaf undersides close their tiny breathing pores. The plant uses less energy when it closes its stomata at night which leads to lower respiration rates. The plant retains more nutrients from the day because it uses less energy at night.

As a result, the tea leaves accumulate higher levels of proteins together with amino acids and vitamins. High mountain tea has a more potent flavor and supports multiple brews due to its superior strength.

3. Better Natural Environment = Less Pollution

The region of high mountain areas generally features rich vegetation with many trees and plants. The immediate vicinity of the tea plants maintains moisture thanks to this effect. The natural shade produced by surrounding vegetation creates optimal light conditions which enable tea bushes to flourish. Tea plants that exhibit good health and growth tend to be more robust and experience fewer pest-related issues.
