Jasmine Dragon Pearl: History and Craft

Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea is a famous kind of jasmine tea. The tea has a long history and a unique position in Chinese tea culture. Flower-scented teas have been quite popular for centuries. Jasmine is known to symbolize purity and beauty. When it’s combined with tea leaves, Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea is endowed with deep cultural meaning. It was even often offered as a gift to royalty and nobility as a symbol of their social
status and taste.

Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea is made in a special way. Only the youngest buds that are picked in early spring are used. The buds are rolled many times with fresh jasmine flowers that are almost blooming.

It is scented five times. After going through the scented process, the leaves are tightly rolled into small balls, looking like pearls. The little pearls have the bai hao (the white fuzz) on them.

The tea smells bright, rich, and long-lasting. When brewing, the tea turns into a clear yellow-green. It is fresh and smooth to taste.

This special process makes Jasmine Dragon Pearl have a strong, refreshing green tea flavor, while blending perfectly with the sweet scent of jasmine. It is truly special.

The rolled leaves of this tea resemble small pearls which inspired its name "Dragon Pearl." The complex rolling method allows the tea leaves to maintain their complete taste and scent during brewing. The budding jasmine flowers used for scenting the tea leaves are removed to allow the process to be repeated multiple times. Eventually, the scenting process helps to enhance the aroma while preserving the tea's freshness and richness.
